RESEARCH STAFF
Jerry Messman – Analytical Scientist Emeritus
In addition to being Senior Managing Director of Stranaska Scientific and its analytical spectrophotometric metrology laboratory, Jerry serves as the founding Director of the Stranaska Prep Academy – Stranaska’s new student learning center for career development in analytical metrology. He is a member of the American Chemical Society, the American Association of Chemistry Teachers, and the American Associate of Physics Teachers. Jerry describes analytical metrology as measurement-centric chemistry (MCC), a new hybrid discipline of the analytical and physical sciences and an emerging STEM focus that underpins a value-added chemistry education. In his view, a high school science education is incomplete and under-valued if the student had not been exposed to the principles, concepts and real-world scope of analytical metrology.
Marla Messman – Operations Associate
Marla assists the managing director through her invaluable support of company operations and management activities. Marla is also indispensible in the company’s educational outreach activities including student liaison during invited short courses and tutorials as well as taking responsibility for logistics and arrangements of company-held workshops. With her insightful and welcoming personality, Marla is the perfect on-site liaison with attending parents of young students enrolled in Academy courses. She has overwhelming community recognition and respect for her strong character as well as for her genuine and uncompromising compassion and concern for the mental and physical well-being and safety of our young children and adolescent adults.
Noah Blair – Analytical Metrology Scientist
Noah is a graduate of the University of Northern Colorado where he earned a bachelor of science degree in physics with a minor in mathematics. He has scientific leadership and student mentorship responsibilities for Stranaska Prep Academy where he oversees the development of new course curricula including instrumental concepts and applications of analytical FT-IR spectroscopy, UV-VIS and fluorescence.
Zachery Lakin – Analytical Metrology Research Scientist
Zach is a graduate of the University of Northern Colorado where he earned a bachelors degree in physics. He assists Dr. Messman with applied laboratory research and development of scientific calibration procedures, methodologies and artifact reference standards that help advance the state-of-the-art of analytical UV/VIS spectrophotometric metrology. Zach also assists Dr. Messman in the development of course curricula for the Stranaska Prep Academy. In his Academy role, he is the current resident expert in analytical FT-IR spectroscopy where he champions the concepts and applications of analytical FT-IR for new hands-on and virtual courses. He also provides direction and oversight of Academy student interns in their research and development of new Academy course curricula.
Magnus Imber – College Science Student Research Intern
Magnus is a full-time student at Colorado State University (Fort Collins, Colorado USA) where he is pursuing dual degrees in mathematics and philosophy with a concentration in science and technology. Magnus currently works on a part-time basis assisting Dr. Messman with research in the organization, archival and communication of UV/VIS spectrophotometric metrology laboratory data. Magnus also uses his scientific interests in computer mathematics and machine learning to help develop Stranaska Prep Academy course curricula in computational chemistry including chemometrics and artificial intelligence applications.
Ethan Arends – College Science Student Research Intern
Ethan earned his high school diploma from Twin Peaks Charter Academy (Longmont, Colorado USA). He will attend Colorado School of Mines (Golden, Colorado USA) to pursue a college degree in chemical and biological engineering. As a part-time summer research intern with Stranaska Scientific, he intends to take advantage of the opportunity to further strengthen his resume for career preparation in a STEM profession. Ethan is projected to assist Dr. Messman with computer keyboard entry of UV/VIS spectrophotometric metrology laboratory data for computational review and archival publication in the Stranaska Journal of Analytical Research and Measurement Analytics.
